Story Line

Yukata Cowboy recounts his past. Eight years ago, he quits his job in Tokyo as a ‘salary man,’ moves to Paris and tries to get “discovered” as an artist. No one pays attention to him until one day, he meets Mona, who turned him into “Yukata Cowboy”, a cross-cultural street-performer. In turn, he inspires Mona’s toy designs. They fall in love and live together for a year. But, they break up after a year, and he drifted out of Paris.

Seven years later, in Paris a young Chinese woman is rushed into the hospital after a traffic accident. She clutches an odd Japanese 'daruma' doll which falls to the floor, rolls over and stands up on its own. As the woman lies in a coma, hospital staffs wonder who she is.

Louis, a Frenchman, shows up at the hospital. He explains that the young woman is his boss Mona, originally from China, who runs a business creating and selling original toys. He contacts Mona’s parents in China, who send Mona’s twin sister Lisa from Geneva to check up on Mona. Lisa works in international finance in Geneva. She and Mona are polar opposites and haven’t seen each other for 10 years.

Arriving in Paris, Lisa finds Mona in a coma. Unfazed, she tries to quickly return to her life. She attempts to settle Mona’s debts by selling off Mona’s business, but finds no buyers. Lisa begins a charade of pretending to their parents that Mona is okay.

Loan sharks beat up Louis, then mistake Lisa for Mona and come after her. Lisa and Louis decide to seek help from Yukata Cowboy, Mona’s talented but eccentric ex. He had been Mona’s creative partner, before leaving town seven years ago.

Yukata Cowboy returns to town. Lisa deceives him by pretending to be Mona. She tries to inspire him to come up with new designs so they can make money and pay back the loan sharks.

Yukata Cowboy come up with a new line of products. It’s a huge success. Business turns around. Sensing something wrong, the Cowboy refuses to re-open their relationship and once again leaves town, walking off into the sunset. Lisa confesses everything to the still comatose Mona and apologizes. Mona comes out of her coma and gives Lisa a long-overdue smack.
